When you bring a date or a friend to the movies, you might as well be alone. You're sitting right next to each other, but not interacting. Same thing with theatre, live music, and the normal stuff you find in newspapers. I love that sometimes, but what about something more quirky? Interactive? More creative than just hitting a bar? That's Johnny's List of Weird Boston Events. Many of these groups don't have ad money, so it takes a nut like me to compile it all. You can't find this stuff anywhere else!
It's all the fireworks, street performers, Ren faires, corn mazes, haunted houses, re-enactments, petting zoos, county fairs, hay rides, museum talks, ethnic festivals, summer concerts, geek conventions, night hikes, moose tours, street parades, sand sculpture contests, outdoor art shows, dinner theatre, sing-alongs, meteor showers, & Boston fun you can eat!
What, is that it?
No, it's also all the adult spelling bees, easter egg hunts, kite festivals, outdoor summer movies, auto shows on the lawn, food festivals, dragon boats, indian pow-wows, zombie marches, pirate faires, Revolutionary War battles, participatory folk dancing, participatory Xmas caroling, mini-golf, paintball fields, hot tub spas, railroad tours, murder mystery dinner theatres, rollerskating, and gallery nights you can eat!
What, is that it?
Heck, no! It's all the real dinosaur footprints, dog sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, wintertime charity swims, magic shows, architectural walking tours, juggling clubs, mechanical bulls, glow-in-the-dark bowling, wildlife sanctuaries, amusement parks, canoe tours, Elvis impersonators, sci-fi conventions, apple picking, poetry slams, and carousels you can eat!
Everything is hand-picked. I take no advertisers, and I research everything personally. I track over 2,000 annual events from year to year, and have been since 2005.

That's me, Johnny Monsarrat. I'm best known for founding Turbine, Inc., which is now the largest computer games company in New England. After Turbine, I got an MBA from MIT and ran a strategic consultancy helping startups grow bigger.
Today my passion is running Hard Data Factory. It's the flip side of Johnny's List. Johnny's List is small and hand-picked. Hard Data Factory is huge, listing over 25,000 events per month per metro, from anywhere in the world you want. We help you monetize your Web traffic: 1. Add our event listings to your website (or ask us to do it), 2. Your visitors click, and sometimes buy tickets. 3. We both earn ticket revenue.
Hard Data Factory also sells market research data, like competitive pricing, sales leads, and business intelligence. If your business needs data, give us a call.
I also run an inspirational public art project called Wheel Questions, Wheel Answers. People submit questions on cards, I write answers and post them all outdoors on a big drum like a secular "Tibetan prayer wheel".
Johnny's List is a labor of love, but a huge amount of work, and it means a lot when people drop me a note. Send your comments and event ideas to johnny@weirdbostonevents.org. Knowing a lot about New England means I love to explore. So I'm always seeking new activity partners. Ask me what I'm checking out personally this week.
